Milan / Italy

The EU blueprint for an agentic city
Italy's GDPR and EU AI Act alignment means success can rapidly transfer to Bologna, Berlin, or Barcelona — and every standard will be published openly for cities that follow

Milan hosts the headquarters of Italy's major banks, energy companies, and telecoms — the enterprises that would be first to put agents on the network are already in the room. Italy's GDPR implementation and EU AI Act alignment mean that a privacy architecture built for Milan transfers directly to the rest of Europe.

Italy's digital identity infrastructure — SPID, CIE, Codice Fiscale, and the IT-Wallet already embedded in the IO app used by tens of millions of Italians — gives the Milan chapter a foundation most European cities would take years to build. A BIP-led chapter with partners including Politecnico di Milano, Fastweb+Vodafone, and sector leaders across finance, energy, and telecom is implementing a rigorous 18-month roadmap to establish Milan as the EU model.
